Architectural Conservation – Construction Supervision Services

The Freedom Tower, Miami

Since 2023, RLA has been contracted for conservation services related to the restoration of the Freedom Tower, currently owned by Miami Dade College. RLA’s scope of work includes conservation oversight of all exterior masonry cleaning and repairs including condition assessments and drawings, review of material submittals, onsite inspections of repairs in conjunction with the historic architect, in addition to serving as a preservation consultant to the owner, architect, and contractor.

Additionally, RLA developed and executed the protocols for decorative painting of the building exterior as designed by the
historic preservation architect. This included producing mockups for owner and architect approval that restores the exterior to its original appearance. RLA has trained and overseen the execution of this decorative painting scheme by the painting subcontractor throughout the entire building exterior. Finally, RLA has provided conservation recommendations for interior
murals and finishes, monitoring for water intrusion throughout construction, and conservation of select architectural features
such as the exterior transom fanlight.
