Apollo Driving His Sun Chariot Across The Sky
Jack Stewart’s Apollo Driving His Sun Chariot Across the Sky is a 90-foot-long mosaic mural originally installed on the historic Miami Beach Versailles Hotel. Between January and November 2023, RLA conserved Jackson Stewart’s Apollo Mosaic for the City of Miami Beach. This project’s many processes included scouring a weed-filled lot to recover detached tesserae, facing panels to repair versos, welding repairs, corrosion treatment, concrete repairs, concrete fills, sourcing replacement tiles, resetting tiles, and a final cleaning of all the surfaces. RLA worked with an engineer to develop a temporary strap system that would provide support to the panels during treatment. As of 2025, mural remains in storage as plans for its reinstallation on Miami Beach continue to develop.
