OUTDOOR BRONZE SCULPTURE
Leaping Hare on Crescent and Bell
This monumental 3-component outdoor sculpture of a leaping hare on a bell is mounted on a vertical crescent composed of 1” thick sheet bronze. When viewed from afar the three elements appear to rest against each other; however they are in fact welded so that the bell element provides a stable support for the crescent. The piece is patinated black and green, a color scheme customary for Flanagan bronzes. This surface had weathered after years of neglect, resulting in a blanched and dry finish that required partial bronze patina repatination. RLA assisted in the dismantling of the sculpture for landscape renovation and performed treatment offsite. We removed decades of corrosion and grime and stripped old coatings chemically. After cleaning, the original patina was restored using hot chemical formulas and the surface was coated with a custom blend of microcrystalline and carnauba waxes designed specifically to withstand the high temperatures of tropical and marine environments. RLA maintains the sculpture annually.
