Collection Care
Condition Assessments, Surveys, and Strategic Conservation Plans
General and object-specific surveys for museums and public art agencies are the basis for developing strategic collections care plans. We have conducted dozens of surveys under grants from the Conservation Assessment Program (CAP), IMLS, and other agencies. We begin with a meeting to determine the aim of the survey and the audience for the report. This is followed by preparation of a form tailored to the needs of the institution or client. We include a prioritization system to allow clients to understand the relative conservation urgency for individual works, and a summary that addresses the specific needs and audience of the assessment.
